HELP STOP CLIMATE CHANGE
All local groups who are deeply concerned about climate catastrophe are asking their supporters to come to the full council meeting at The Shoreham Centre . Come with banners, posters, voices to let Adur Council know how strongly you feel.
The Adur Green Party will be presenting their petition with well over 1,000 signatures setting out their goals for action on the climate emergency. AREA will be putting a question to the Council on their strategy for managing air pollution. If you want to submit a question, send it to Democratic Services by noon tomorrow.
At the Joint Strategy Committee meeting last week Adur and Worthing Council declared a climate emergency, pledging to work towards becoming carbon neutral by 2030. It is crucial that the Councils develop a strategy, not just for their own buildings and employees transport, but for the whole area.
How does approval of New Monks Farm fit into a climate strategy? A development which encourages people to get in their cars is counterproductive.
How will the councils handle the increase in traffic from all the developments along the A27 and A259? In 2013 they paid a consultancy firm thousands to come up with answers and we are waiting to see the results.
Brighton and Hove Council has just refused planning permission for a development of 37 flats in an 8 storey block, stepping down to 5 storeys. The reasons given were: the flats, along the Hove seafront, were in front of neighbouring houses and would be overbearing and overlook them. So 5 stars to Brighton and Hove Council for taking into consideration residents’ feelings.
HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU AT THE SHOREHAM CENTRE ON THURSDAY AT 6.
THERE WILL EVEN BE A NEW SONG TO THE TUNE OF WILD ROVER!
